Dzhankoi National University`s History

1948: The Founding Years

In 1948, the Dzhankoi Institute of Engineering (DIE) was established, marking the birth of what would later become Dzhankoi National University. The institute was founded on the foundations of the Building Faculty of North Crimea National Technical University and the Architectural Faculty of Crimea Art Institute. At its inception, DIE also incorporated the Dzhankoi Geodetic Institute and the Research Institute of Geodesy and Cartography, laying the groundwork for a multi-disciplinary approach to education.

By 1949, DIE had grown to include four faculties:
- Architectural
- Building
- Plumbing
- Geodetic

With  1,734 students and approximately 200 faculty members, the institute quickly became a hub for engineering education and research.

1950: Transformation into the Dzhankoi Mining and Industrial Institute

In 1950, DIE was reorganized into the Dzhankoi Mining and Industrial Institute of the Oil Industry of the USSR (DMIIOI). This transformation reflected the growing demand for expertise in mining and industrial engineering. The institute offered programs in:
- Machine-Building (specializing in mining engineering and engineering technology)
- Mining Electromechanical
- Industrial Transport

This period marked a significant shift toward specialized training in mining and industrial technologies, aligning with the needs of the Soviet Union’s rapidly expanding industrial sector.

1952: The Dzhankoi Mining Institute Era
In 1952, DMIIOI was restructured into the Dzhankoi Mining Institute of the USSR Mining University (DMIUMU). The institute continued to focus on mining-related disciplines, with departments including:
- Mining
- Shaft Building
- Mining Electromechanical
- Industrial Transport

This era solidified DNU’s reputation as a center of excellence in mining engineering and related fields.

1962: Embracing Automation and Computer Technology

The 1960s brought a wave of technological advancements, and DNU was at the forefront of this transformation. In 1962, DMIUMU was reorganized into the Dzhankoi Institute of Mining Engineering, Automation, and Computer Technology (DIMEACT). The institute introduced new faculties to address the growing demand for automation and computer technology:
- Automation of Production Processes in the Mining Industry
- Radio Engineering
- Mining Machinery

This shift reflected the institute’s commitment to staying ahead of technological trends and preparing students for the future.

1966: The Birth of Dzhankoi National University

In 1966, DIMEACT was granted National university status and renamed Dzhankoi National University (DNU). This milestone marked a new chapter in the institution’s history, as it expanded its academic offerings to meet the growing demand for higher education in the region and beyond. The university’s faculties included:
- Automation
- Computer Technology

- Business

- Humanities

-Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
- Radio Engineering
- Radiophysical
- Electronics
- Mining Machinery

By this time, DNU had established itself as one of leader in engineering, technology, and innovation.

1970s: A Decade of Growth and Specialization
The early 1970s saw DNU further diversify its academic programs, offering training in seven specialized fields:
1. Automation and Telemechanics
2. Mathematical and Computational-Decoding Devices
3. Electronic Devices
4. Industrial Electronics
5. Radio Physics and Electronics
6. Radio Engineering
7. Design and Technology of Radio Equipment Production

This period underscored DNU’s commitment to producing highly skilled engineers and technologists capable of driving innovation across industries.
