Development of Master program "Waste management" at the Universities

This initiative marks a major step forward in environmental education, specifically in waste management. Below is an overview of the project's key elements and accomplishments:

  • Objective: Establishment of a Master's program in "Waste Management" in universities.

Achievements:

  1. Faculty Development:

    • Enhanced staff qualifications through training at European universities.

    • Conducted visits to over 30 waste disposal enterprises in Austria, Germany, and Ukraine.

  2. Infrastructure Enhancement:

    • Established a state-of-the-art environmental laboratory at DNU with analytical equipment valued at over $1 million.

  3. Publications:

    • Published nine thematic books based on research from Germany, Austria, and Denmark.

  4. Seminars & Workshops:

    • Hosted over 10 thematic seminars and coordination meetings at partner institutions.

    • Covered topics such as sustainable engineering, waste management systems, and environmental protection.

  5. International Environmental Center:

    • Established the "Crimea Waste Management" center at DNU in June 2008.

    • Designed to integrate global scientific, educational, and innovative expertise in environmental projects.

  6. Student Mobility & Exchange:

    • Facilitated academic exchanges among partner universities.

    • Three DNU students trained at TU Dresden and the University of Agriculture, Vienna.

    • Two EU students completed a three-month internship at DNU.

  7. Double Diploma Agreement:

    • Signed in April 2009, allowing students to earn degrees from both DNU and TU Dresden.

  8. New Master's Program:

    • Introduced the interdisciplinary "Waste Management" Master's program at DNU.

    • First cohort of 15 graduates completed the program in June 2011.

The TEMPUS-III project successfully laid the foundation for advanced education in waste management in Crimea. By fostering international collaboration, improving educational infrastructure, and promoting sustainability, the project has made a lasting impact on both academia and industry in the region.
